A police sergeant who rushed to the help of a partner that was assaulted by a knife attacker has been awarded the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Officer stabbed," the officer stated over his communication device.

He struck the policeman who stumbled and fell to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being continually attacked with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a safe opportunity, ending the fight to an end.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sgt Ansell suffered two open wounds to his throat and additional wounds to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.

The department said Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stem his colleague's hemorrhaging before paramedics arrived.

The new award comes subsequent to the three officers received internal Courage Honors in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local officer association in spring 2024.

They additionally received a North West Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The responses of all three officers ultimately rescued themselves and ensured no members of the public endured any injuries."

Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, according to authorities.
