Four Detentions Executed in Connection to Paris Louvre Museum Precious Gems Heist

Another four individuals are now under arrest within the framework of the ongoing investigation into the last month's theft of valuable jewellery at the Louvre Museum, as stated by the French judicial authorities.

Specifics of the Latest Detentions

Two male suspects, 38 and 39 years old, and a duo of females, in their early thirties and forties, were taken into custody this Tuesday. Each hails from the greater Paris area.

Included in this group is thought to be the last participant of a quartet of thieves that is said to have performed the daylight heist, according to French media. The additional three alleged robbers were previously detained and indicted, officials say.

Law enforcement has been granted as much as 96 hours to question them. No trace has to date been discovered of the stolen jewels - valued at 88 million euros (76 million pounds; 102 million dollars) - which were stolen on October 19th.

Prior Accusations and Denials

Four individuals have previously faced charges in relation to the robbery - a trio of males and one female, who also live in the Parisian area.

One female, aged 38 was charged earlier this month with involvement in organized robbery and conspiracy to commit crimes aimed at perpetrating an offense.

In a distinct case, a man, aged 37, was accused of robbery and illegal conspiracy.

The pair of accused, who remain unnamed in public records, have rejected all accusations.

The Method of the Robbery Was Executed

The robbery occurred when the group of four men utilized a stolen mechanical lift attached to a vehicle to breach the Galerie d'Apollon through a terrace near the Seine River.

The perpetrators employed a cutting disc to break into exhibition cases housing the jewellery.

The thieves were inside for four minutes and executed their getaway on a pair of scooters positioned externally at 09:38 in the morning, before changing to vehicles.

One of the stolen items - a crown - was lost during the getaway but eight additional pieces of jewelry - featuring an emerald and diamond necklace that Emperor Napoleon presented to his second wife, Marie-Louise of Austria - were appropriated.

Protective Deficiencies and Aftermath

Officials have revealed that the theft was performed by minor lawbreakers rather than organised crime professionals.

In the immediate aftermath of the heist, it was announced by the Louvre leadership that the sole surveillance camera watching the Apollo Gallery was facing opposite the terrace used by the perpetrators to gain entry.

The museum's president has subsequently acknowledged that the museum had failed in its responsibilities, but denied that security had been overlooked - emphasizing that from the time she took office in 2021 she had been warning constantly of the requirement for additional resources.

Improved Safeguarding Protocols

Following the event, safeguarding procedures have been tightened around the nation's cultural landmarks.

Officials have relocated some of its most precious jewels to the Bank of France in the aftermath of the robbery.
